Filming day 03/11/11

Today one of our main characters for our video Guiseppe was off due to ilness, therefore we could not continue filming.

However we still made our day productive! We made a start our CD cover by booking a studio to do our photo for our album cover and continued working on our blog. We also began with the editing the video on Final Cut Pro.

We started the day by taking some photos of Me, Emmanuel & Jubil for our CD cover. Some pictures didnt look too good, But we got the right one in the end!

Here are some of those pictures...

Post production ideas

after all the filming we plan to use some effects.
some of the effects we will use are lighting either to fix some lighting issues or use it to give the video a certain feel to it.
We viewed some of the shots we have filmed and we have decided on what the opening sequence will be and we have decided that our video will have some varying speeds of cuts some will be fast between different scenes to go with when the music speeds up and some will be slower and calmer to relate to the over all feel of the video.
during filming we also took some pictures that will be in the video. some will be related and some images wont be.

Filming Day 2

On our second day of filming which was 31/10/11 we started work in different locations on the first part of the song filming the different scenes in some of our various locations , we chose the location of a brick wall background for the beginning of the song because it makes the characters stand out and allows us to see them clearly , also we chose this because it goes with the stereotype of young people always being on the street which links to the lyrics of the song which talk about "a messed up generation".
this use of the background shows some intertextuality of some different events and story lines relevent in todays climate.

Permission letter to film at Shisha bar

This is our permission email we send to the shisha bar, which was our location on our fourth day of filming. We did this because it would look professional and we were guaranteed we were able to film within.

Permission letter

In our planning, we discussed potential locations for our music video. All our locations eg. Wit worth park, town centre is all free and accessible at all time to shoot. However one place which was not free to shoot to was our scene at the club during the very high beat of the video. For this we decided to send the email to a local bar (Bar ‘one) asking for permission to shoot at the club. We did this is because it is professional. By doing this it gives us a plan to work around and our shooting days.

Potential locations of the video

All of our analysis on the music videos showed they had an establishing shot at the start for example, Example- Stay Awake music video within the first 15 seconds consisted of various location shots. Because of this we as a team decided to start our music video with a establishing shot. We have listed a few potential locations were we could shoot our opeening scene.

Establishing shot

Hilton Hotel

(Hilton Hotel overview in Manchester, 303 Deansgate, Manchester M3 4LQ)

For our opening scene of the video (establishing shot) one suggestion was to shoot the shot from the top of the Hilton Hotel in Manchester. The reason for this is because this is one of the highest points in Manchester, which is accessible for shooting and shows a good view of Manchester. By doing this it will give us a shot, which would look professional and unique.

Mamchester arndale car park

(Unit, R10-R19 Marsden Way S, Manchester M4 3AT)

Another suggestion was for the establishing shot, to be shot from the top of the Andale car park. The advantage of shooting here would be that it is easy to accessible and also it’s completely free of charge to shoot.

Main locations of the video

Withworth Park

Witworth Park is going to be one of two main locations our video will be filmed. These will the setting for our campfire, which would be our main scene for our video. At the high beat scenes of the video, we have planned to shoot our scene in a nightclub. This is to create a party feeling within the video. The club we have decided to film in club, which is owned by my uncle. We as a team have written an official letter asking him (Martin Malayil) if we have authorization to film on his premises. We have gratefully received a letter back from him telling us we are able to film in the club.

Manchester town centre

Other location will be the streets of the town center of Manchester to get the shot of crowd. We decided to film the crowded scene on the streets of the town center. We chosen th is location because it would the most convenient for everyone in the group to get there and as it would be free and no permission is needed to film so it would most convenient.

Streets of Manchester at peek times (1pm)

Shisha Bar

Hookahs Shisha bar is another location where we are going to film our video. To be able to do this we have sent out and email to the company asking permission to use the bar to film. We decided on this location because smoking and drinking is what comes to mind of the public when they think about teenagers and young adults. Because our target audience is teenagers and young adults we have decided to shoot one of our scenes in a shisha bar where there is a lot of smoking involved. Also I think it fits into the context and rhythm of the music video.

Wall

We decided to film parts of our music video against the wall. We have looked at many other music videos and saw shooting against a constant background was very common. We decided to film on the wall of our college. We decided because the light was very good at the area and it was easy to get to.
