Video Analysis: Calvin Harris Feat. Kelis - Bounce feat. Kelis

The video being analysed is Calvin Harris Feat. Kelis - Bounce feat. Kelis This is a mixture between narrative and performance, the white man who is the main character in the music video, is shown throughout the whole video there are some shots in the video of him acting nothing to do with the video, and other shots of a female called ‘Kelis’ who is shown to be doing a performance at the end.

Genre of the song:

The genre of the song is of a similar genre to the song we decided to use for our video. There are very jumpy scenes (when it kicks in) and also gives off a party theme song such as other ‘Example’ videos and songs we decided to analyze. There is not much link between the video and the lyrics although the song is called ‘’bounce’’ and the main character bounces a tennis ball there and then.

Camera use:

Throughout the whole video the camera follows around this skinny white male who has a minor argument at the start with a female who he gets over it quite quickly and meets some of his friends, because its following one character throughout there are many close ups and medium shots. Same as when ‘Kelis’ the singer in the song is performing there are many close up’s and long shots to show them both in the scene.

Use of props & costumes:

The name of the song is ‘bounce’ therefore the tennis ball being bounced is a prop they used to signify this. The headphones around his neck he wears he listens to music through are a prop, also sunglasses, white trainers & chains are props all of the main character’s friends wear as a ‘style’.

Location:

The main locations used in the video are the main character’s house where he changes his clothes at. The city centre where he roams around with his friends, and at the end when he is at the clubs dancing. Also Kelis is shown performing with some cast around her in an abandoned area.

Lighting:

At the start it seems like the morning… the sun is shining he’s wearing his sunglasses etc… Then it gets darker as the video continues to play and ends up in the club with his friends. When Kelis is performing its dark outside, with some lighting shining on her face showing her expressions.
