Elliot John Gleave, also known as Example was born on June 20th 1982 in London. Elliot John Gleave the elder of two children attended Ashcroft Technology College. He said the main reason he started rapping was because of the introduction of Hip-Hop through the albums of Wu-Tang Clan and Snoop Dog.

While at university he started garage Mc’ing to make some money. It was during this period he met Joseph Revell also known as Rusher which we would go on and work with. Example and Revell made there first album together which included Examples first white label vinyl release ‘ a pointless Song’. In 1992 Example won Royal Mail Poet of the Year
